“While we are not able to replicate every course that is offered on our campuses in the virtual program, we are adding courses where there was a high volume of students who had signed up for the course across the district,” the district said in the update.
The courses being added are not available on Edgenuity, the platform being used for LISD’s virtual learners. The district will create its own curriculum for the additional courses, the update said.
Among the added courses are several that were requested by a group of students via an online petition and letter to district administration, including Computer Science 1, 2 and Advanced Placement; AP Calculus BC; and AP Chemistry.
The following courses have been added to the virtual learning offerings, per the July 29 update:
- Intermediate & Advanced Band
- Intermediate & Advanced Choir
- Intermediate & Advanced Orchestra
- Intermediate & Advanced Theatre
- Art 2 and 3 Drawing
- Art 2 and 3 Photography
- Band; Percussion; Color Guard
- AP Calculus BC
- AP Chemistry
- AP Physics 1
- AP Computer Science
- AP Macro Economics
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Computer Science 1
- Computer Science 2
This update came two days after the district made the decision to begin its school year Aug. 19 with remote-only learning. Those who selected in-person learning for the year will return to campus after Sept. 8, according to the district.
